NYSPCC and the Great Depression

As economic despair gripped the nation during the Great Depression, many children and families became homeless. Recognizing the dire conditions many children faced, NYSPCC expanded its efforts to support and house children in need.

In 1930 alone, NYSPCC offered shelter to 5,577 children at its facility on 105th St. The shelter was more than just a place to sleep, it was a sanctuary where children were fed, clothed, educated, and supported.
